"The area that includes present day Cass County was first organized in 1820 as Miller County, Territory of Arkansas. Some Miller County records are located in Lewisville, Arkansas. Although a part of the province legally claimed by Mexico, the Mexicans had no interest in settling these north woods which they called The Department of Nacogdoches. Possibly too, they were never aware that Arkansas laid claim to it. In 1836, after the Texas Revolution, this same area became known as Red River County. The new county included present Bowie, Cass, Franklin, Marion, Morris, Red River and Titus Counties."
The above quote is from an article entitled Paschal County The Ghost County of Cass County, by Charles Steger, printed in Vol. 4 #2, 1977, The Cass County Genealogical Society.
Cass County as it is today was organized in 1846. For many years prior to that date and for many years thereafter residents of this area attended church at Macedonia, Olive Branch and Bright Star, Arkansas and both the Macedonia and Olive Branch were and still are being used as burying grounds for residents of this area. Macedonia was organized by Jesse I. Waldon and Nelson Porterfield the 15th of March 1856.
This cemetery is known to be predominantly white.
The oldest known grave:
PUGH Elizabeth M. 15-JUL-1824 18-OCT-1827
